- How old are you?
I'm 19 years old.
- Are you in college?
I am, I am in my second year of undergraduate studies. I'm studying psychology and music.
- What do you struggle with?
I struggle with generalized anxiety disorder and depression. I also battled self harm when I was younger.
- Why do you blog?
The simple answer is because I love it, but I elaborate more on that here
- What do you want to do in the future?
In the future I want to open my own inpatient facility. I want to specialize in adolescents with eating disorders and study music therapy to help people express themselves through a form of art. When I open my hospital, I will have specific assistance to low income families because I believe mental health should be accessible to anyone regardless of financial standing.
- What's your email address?
firstname.lastname@example.org, email me here!
- "Do I have (insert mental illness)?"
Yes, I am studying psychology and want to be a clinical psychologist. However, I am not done with my studies and therefore am not qualified to give you an official diagnosis. If you fear you may be struggling with a mental illness please talk to a parent about finding you a therapist, or if you're an adult, go speak to a therapist.
- How do I talk to my parents about my mental health?
- Should I see a therapist?
- What are your thoughts on medicating mental illnesses?
My medication ended up being my saving grace. Being on my antidepressant/anxiety medication made a world of difference in who I am and how I feel. Medication isn't a quick fix and I still have bad days on it but it definitely helped me. Therapy gave me coping mechanisms to handle those bad days but my medicine really helped turn around how I was feeling internally.
